2/12/2015 – Alaska Fairbanks Fires Head Coach over Recruiting Violations
The University of Alaska Fairbanks announced the termination of the head volleyball coach, Mallory Larranaga, for multiple recruiting violations. Per NCAA rules, coaches and assistant coaches are not allowed to be present during a non-official practice (like a player-organized open gym, captain’s practice, or general workout). Additionally, potential student-athletes are not allowed to be recorded during campus visits. Both of these rules were violated which led to the decision to fire Larranaga, who was an All-American outside for the Nanooks.
It is important to know the NCAA recruiting rules, especially as a student-athlete looking to be recruited to play volleyball in college.
